Capsule Administration.
It is easier to gavage or intubate mice than to administer a capsule.
The dosing procedure for mice is similar to that for rats.
When Are Capsules Useful.
- Capsules are ideal for materials that are insoluble, form poor suspensions, are affected by excepients or are odorous and distasteful, e.g., sustained release beadlets, paint flakes, chromic oxide marker
- Capsules may save time and money by eliminating validation of suspension / solution homogeneity.
- Capsules eliminate excepient (carrier) absorption affects.
- To learn more about rat dosing see page 2 of the pdf Practical Guide on Rodent Capsules (7 pages)
